Relax & Unwind With A Yoga Holiday

India
View all of our
Volunteer Abroad Programmes

If you enjoy the peaceful, calming activity of yoga, give your mind, body and soul a complete rejuvenation with a holiday in India, the birthplace of the ancient art of yoga. Idyllic Kerala in South India is a location that is perfect for yoga lovers, and an experienced Indian yoga master will help you deepen your understanding of yoga, helping you to connect to your true nature spiritually and physically. You will learn Hatha yoga, which covers physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama) and meditation, along with various cleansing practices.

Explore this beautiful region, immerse yourself in the rich culture, and give back to the local community by taking part in community development programs and spending time with local children and women from weaker sections of society. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate learner or advanced yogi, you can participate in this rewarding holiday program. With a variety of volunteer programs to choose from, there is truly something for everyone here.

Education

Volunteer in local schools, and help children and youth with English and other subjects. Children are between 6 years and 16 years old, and you will be aiding the local teaching staff by conducting one to one foundation level English classes or giving life skills coaching, which may sometimes include art, sports and yoga. The focus is on learning English, as most children have no exposure to the language where they live. A good command of English can help children achieve a higher level of education, get better paying jobs, and break free of the poverty cycle.

Women’s Empowerment

Here you can work with women from villages and slums, helping with education, life skill coaching and soft skill development that would be beneficial to women and give them hope for a better future with more gender equality.

Disabled Children

This program will allow you to interact with and help children with physical and mental disabilities. You will give one to one support and care, as well as assist specialist teachers with activities like sports and art.

A day in the life

Programs generally begin on the weekends, with a minimum stay of two weeks. Staff will pick you up from the airport to your home, where you meet your program coordinator and receive a welcome presentation, culture training and area orientation. Sunday is free for sightseeing and leisure activities.

A typical day on the yoga and volunteering project will begin with a yoga session in the early morning, followed by a relaxing breakfast before spending the day within a local project. Volunteering will be divided into a 2-hour session in the morning and another 2 hours in the afternoon. You will have evenings free for cultural activites, for which there will be an additional fee. You can spend your weekends visiting the beach towns of Varkala or Kovalam, enjoying the famous Backwaters of Alleppey or  joining a trekking adventure in the Munnar Tea Plantations.
